Description
The boundary wall and gates to the churchyard of St Peter and St Paul in Mansfield were built in 1832, with an addition from the early 20th century. The wall has a curved layout that runs alongside Church Street and Bridge Street, measuring approximately 200 meters in length. It is constructed from coursed squared stone and features a moulded ashlar coping, which was originally topped with a railing. The main gateway includes steps that are flanked by ogee-curved walls, which are topped with cast-iron railing. There are square piers on pedestals that support tapered shafts of cast-iron lamps. The entrance has a pair of renewed wrought-iron gates with openwork iron piers. To the left of the main gate, there is an early 20th-century stone arch that contains a notice board and has a swept hipped slate roof. A side gate leading to Bridge Street features a similar design with a gate and steps flanked by ogee-curved walls, which also display the date. This structure is included for its group value.
