Description

No. 5, Bridge Street is a house, later used as a house and shop, dating from the late 17th century, with additions and alterations made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone and brick, with painted and partly rendered surfaces and stone dressings. It has a steeply pitched slate roof, a coped front gable with kneelers, and a single brick ridge stack.

The two-storey house has a two-window front, with a gable facing the street. This gable contains a paired sash window with a renewed central mullion on the upper floor, and above it a similar window. Below, there is a late 19th-century single-pane shop window with a wooden surround, and to its left a 20th-century door. The return to the right has a two-light Yorkshire sash window, and above it, a dormer window with glazing bars. Below the dormer window is a 19th-century six-panel door, and to its right a three-light casement window. A slightly projecting 19th-century addition to the right is notable for a plain sash window, and 20th-century two-light casement windows above and below it.
