Description
No. 23A is a former bank built around 1875, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed of ashlar stone with polychrome ashlar dressings and features a plain tile roof with a coped gable stack. It has angle pilasters and rebated eaves. The structure is three storeys high and has a three-window range of round-headed plain sashes, which include an impost band, hoodmould, and fluted keystones. Above these windows are three segment-headed plain sashes separated by fluted terms, along with a lintel band and a moulded sill band. The ground floor boasts a moulded painted ashlar shop front, which has panelled pilasters and an enriched cornice. The mid-20th century alterations include reconstituted stone infill featuring a central glazing bar window, with a blank space to the left and a panelled double door with an overlight to the right. The building is included for its group value.
