Description
The former moot hall, now a disused bank, dates back to 1752 and is located at the north corner of the Market Place in Mansfield. It was funded by Lady Oxford of Welbeck. The building features coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings, a reconstituted stone ground floor, and a hipped slate roof. Notable architectural details include projecting quoins, window surrounds, and a moulded main cornice.
The structure has three storeys with a window arrangement of 2:3:2. The first and second-floor windows are top-hung glazing bar casements, with the second-floor windows being smaller. The projecting centre section, which has three windows, is adorned with a pediment that contains an achievement of arms in high relief, along with a frieze inscribed "HCHOM" interspersed with paterae. On either side of this section are two additional windows.
The ground floor features a central three-bay arrangement with reeded pilasters and scroll brackets supporting the projecting upper bays. To the left, there are two glazing bar windows with panelled aprons, and to the right, a double door with an overlight. Beyond these, there are two similar windows on either side. The right return has two windows with similar fenestration to the front, and the ground floor includes a glazing bar window to the left and a panelled double door with an overlight to the right, both with projecting surrounds.
