Description

No. 11 Leeming Street is a shop that has been converted into a café and shop, dating from around 1900, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. Originally built for Boot's chemists, the building features a faience front and showcases an eclectic architectural style with elements of Decorated Gothic and Renaissance Revival.

The structure has three storeys and a five-window range. The first-floor bays are separated by Ionic columns, which support a moulded impost band beneath a main cornice that has breaks over the columns. The frieze includes roundels featuring the letter B. Each bay contains a moulded elliptical-arched opening with a three-light cross casement window, where the central light is adorned with a pediment and fanlight.

On the second floor, there is a central bay flanked by Ionic columns on pedestals, topped with a shouldered dentillated semicircular gable that features supporting volutes and a finial. This bay has an elliptical-arched three-light mullioned window with a keystone, Gothic tracery, and short columns and pedestals in front of the mullions. The side bays are also divided by short Ionic columns on pedestals, with a cornice that has breaks. Each of these bays contains three flat-headed windows with Gothic tracery and voussoirs, and all except the extreme left window have leaded glazing. Above this, there is a pierced coped balustrade with pedestals and finials.

The ground floor has two late 20th-century shop fronts that share a central entrance and feature a continuous fascia.
