Description

This is a sarcophagus located 10 metres south of the south porch at the Church of St. Edmund in Mansfield Woodhouse. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of ashlar stone. The sarcophagus features a rectangular base consisting of four steps, which previously had a railing. The corners of the sarcophagus are rebated, and it has a moulded top edge with a hipped lid. There are inscribed panels on three sides, although most of the text is illegible. The west side displays a wreathed cartouche that includes arms.
