Description
South Lodge, now a house, was built in 1862 and designed by C A Buckler. The building features rockfaced sandstone with ashlar dressings and a plain tile roof adorned with carved barge boards. It has a chamfered plinth and ashlar quoins, with a single central ridge stack. The lodge is a single storey plus garret and attic, comprising three bays. The central doorway has a plank door and is sheltered by a wooden projecting gabled porch. This is flanked by two-light mullion windows with four-centred arches. Above, there is a central dormer featuring a two-light mullion window. Surrounding the lodge is a dwarf boundary wall topped with spearhead railings and a central gate. To the south, there are estate gates with square ashlar piers topped with pyramidal elements, along with central double gates and a wicket gate, all also featuring spearhead railings.
