Description
The sundial, located on the north side of the Cloister Garth, was constructed in 1856. It is made of ashlar, marble, and bronze. The sundial features a square plinth with two steps and a round stem that has a moulded base. The marble capital has been re-set and is topped with a bronze dial that is inscribed with the following text: "This piece of marble, the capital of one of the smaller Columns of the Temple of Venus at the Piraeus Athens, Presented to Miss F. Webb by Captain T. W. Goie 3rd. Regt. October 1856." The sundial is signed "Osmond, Sarum." The gnomon was renewed in the late 20th century. This sundial is included in the listing for its group value only.
