Description
The Fern Garden Grotto, built around 1864, is a small structure located in the northern part of the fernery on the west side of the central path. It is constructed from variously sized and irregularly laid stone, partially coated with cement, and features an interior lining of Derbyshire tufa calcareous. The grotto is built into the bank and has a rustic character, typical for such a structure. It includes two openings where the cement is shaped to create a dripping effect on the soffits, which is also reflected in the interior design.
