Description

No. 52 Main Street is a building that combines two houses into one, dating from the early 17th century and early 18th century. It features a timber frame and brick construction, rendered on the exterior, with a combination of plain tile and pantile roofs. The building has a rubble plinth and brick nogging, with a single coped gable. There are three gable stacks and two diagonally set ridge stacks.

The structure has two storeys plus garrets and consists of four bays. The front facing the street has an off-centre gabled projection that is single storey and single bay. To the left of this projection is one window, while to the right are three casements. Above the projection, there is another casement window.

At the rear, the left side features a 17th-century timber-framed section, while the right side has an 18th-century portion with a late 20th-century catslide roof. On the left side of the rear, there is a door with a late 20th-century porch, flanked by single casements. Above this, to the left, is a casement window and a close-studded section with three bays. To the right, there is a sloping dormer.

The north gable has a door on the left and two casements on each floor to the right, with two garret casements above. Inside, the building features three pairs of bay posts, a chamfered span beam, and a fireplace bressumer.
