Description
Hall Farmhouse is a 15th-century farmhouse, significantly altered in the late 17th century and again in the mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with a plain tile roof, ashlar dressings, and coped gables. The building has two gable and one ridge stack and is arranged over three storeys and seven bays, forming an L-shaped layout. Most windows are 2-light mullioned leaded casements. The west front features canted stair turrets at each end, the one to the left incorporating an altered doorway with a casement. The front also has a cove moulded doorway with overlight, along with several casements, some of which are keystoned or blocked. Above are further casements, some blocked, and a small lead plaque. The north gable has a late 20th-century single-storey addition and a single casement. The south gable has a blocked central doorway containing a casement with a hood mould, above which are square casements and a small lancet. An addition, dated approximately 1976, is located to the right of the south gable, constructed of coursed rubble and brick with pantile and flat roofs. The east side has an altered corbelled external stack, alongside sash windows and blocked openings. Rear wings, dating to the 18th and 19th centuries are also present. Internally, there is a timber winder stair, a chamfered ashlar doorway, a moulded ashlar fireplace (altered to a segmental head), a panelled cupboard dating to approximately 1800, and 18th-century plank and panel doors. An adjoining boundary wall, approximately 30 metres long, is characterised by flat and chamfered copings. The farmhouse is believed to be a wing of an earlier manor house, which was likely demolished in the mid-18th century.
