Description
The Gothic summerhouse at Number 9 The Yews was built in 1759, likely by Thomas Wright. It is constructed from coursed and squared rubble and brick, featuring ashlar dressings and plain tile roofs with gables and lean-tos. The structure has a stone plinth, a string course, coped gables, and crenellated parapets. The west front includes two steps dated 1759 and a slightly projecting central bay with a pointed opening surrounded by a rebated ogee head. This bay is flanked by round corner towers that have slit lights and pulvinated plinths. Above the bay, there are two roundels next to single shaped blank openings, and each tower features a blank quatrefoil. The north and south sides have blocked pointed and round-headed openings. The east side has a lean-to roof with a central gable that contains a round opening with pigeonholes. Inside, there are pointed and round-headed recesses in the side walls. This summerhouse was part of the garden design for Nuthall Temple, which was demolished in 1926.
