Description
Whitsunday Pie Lock Bridge 60 is an accommodation bridge over the Chesterfield Canal, built around 1774 to 1776 when this section of the canal was constructed. It was designed by engineers James Brindley and Hugh Henshall. The bridge is made of brick with squared stone coping and features a single segmental-headed arch with a towpath. Notable architectural elements include a projecting arch ring or drip mould and springing stones to the arch. The swept wings of the bridge terminate in piers, and there has been some brick renewal. The bridge is located across the tail of the adjacent lock.
