Description

The School House is a building that was originally constructed as a school in 1776 and has since been converted into a cottage. It features colour washed red brick and a pantile roof, with a single gable on the left and a single ridge rendered stack. The left gable is raised and rendered, showcasing tumbled in brickwork, while the eaves are adorned with dentils. The building is two storeys high and consists of four bays, with a band running along the first floor.

The entrance has a 20th-century glazed door, and to the right of the doorway is a similar blocked entrance, followed by a single tripartite glazing bar Yorkshire sash window. On the left side, there is another similar sash window. All ground floor openings are set under segmental arches. Above, there are two 20th-century tripartite casement windows. An ashlar plaque above the blocked doorway reads: "Henry Jackson of this town Gent built and endowed this school for four pounds a year for the education of ten poor children belonging to this parish Anno Dom 1776."

To the left of the main structure, there is a lower one-and-a-half storey extension with a single bay, which includes a single glazing bar Yorkshire sash window and a single 20th-century casement window above. Inside, the building features many exposed beams in the two rooms flanking the doorway, along with a closed well staircase.
