Description

The Winnings and sundial is a row of six almshouses built in 1890, constructed from ashlar stone with a tiled roof. The building features two gable stacks and three ridge stacks, each with four diagonally set shafts, and six shafts on the central stack. It has coped parapets with a moulded band beneath, and coped gables with kneelers. The structure consists of twelve bays over two storeys, with the outer bays and the third bay in on both sides projecting slightly, while the central two bays also have a slight projection. All bays are topped with shaped gables, and decorative ashlar scrolls flank the central gable, extending onto the parapet.

The central two bays are set on a plinth and feature a ground floor lintel band. The ground floor includes two five-light casement windows, flanked by single-storey porches that each have two moulded arches supported by round columns, leading to two inner doorways with Tudor-style arches and part-glazed doors. Further flanking these are single similar casements and two-storey projecting porches with single archways and inner doorways. The outer bays each contain a single five-light canted casement window.

Above the central bays is a commemorative plaque, flanked by single four-light casements. The roof features two gabled dormers that break across the eaves, along with additional single four-light and two-light casements. All casements, except those in the dormers, have lead glazing bars, stone mullions, and drip moulds. The apex of the central gable is carved with "AD 1890" and topped with a central pediment featuring a family crest, while the outer gables also display carved crests. In front of the building, there is a sundial adorned with cherubs' heads.
