SK 5878 NW WORKSOP BRIDGE STREET (West side)

7/29 No.112 The Lion Hotel and Restaurant 2.7.75 G.V. II

Inn, now hotel. C18. Irregularly coursed ashlar, colourwashed, with hipped slate roof. Stone plinth, rusticated quoins, fascia board with iron cresting, second floor band, moulded ashlar architraves, single roof stack. 3 storeys plus attics, 4 bays. Facade has 4 bay arcade with Doric columns, containing, to left, 6 plain sashes, and to right, carriage entry with barred close- boarded gates. Above, 4 glazing bar sashes and central wrought iron sign bracket. Above again, 4 similar sashes, and above again, 2 flat roofed dormers, each with a glazing bar casement. Below carriage entry is a large C19 segmental-headed doorway with moulded hood on curved brackets, containing doorkeeper's recess. Interior has hewn span beams and joists, irregular early C19 dog- leg staircase, remains of a stud wall, and original roof with halved ridge and tenoned purlins. Long early C19 rear wing is of no special interest.
