Description
The Lion Vaults, located behind Nos. 108 and 110 on Bridge Street in Worksop, is a 17th-century timber-framed building that now serves as a hotel bar. The structure features coursed rubble and brick with rendering and ashlar dressings. It is a single-storey building topped with a slate roof.
On the south side, which is connected to the Lion Hotel by a glazed roof, there is a single plain sash window on the left, followed by a 20th-century door, both framed with ashlar surrounds. To the right of these, there are two 20th-century doors with overlights. The north side displays timber-framed panels.
Inside, the building has six bay posts, two of which are braced to the collar beam. The roof structure consists of principal rafters with a halved ridge, notched purlins, tenoned collars, and straight windbraces. One bay features studding between the tie beam and collar, while the tie beams have empty mortices underneath. It is noted that two western bays were largely rebuilt around 1983.
