Description
The Falcon Hotel is an inn that likely originated in the early 18th century and was enlarged and altered in the late 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of brick that has been rendered and incised to resemble stone ashlar. The building features a steeply pitched roof, currently covered in cement tiles, with parapet gable ends and a moulded wood eaves cornice. There is a ridge stack made of 19th-century gault brick and a corner stack that dates from the late 17th or early 18th century.
The hotel is two storeys tall and has three recessed hung sashes. On either side of the doorway, there are two canted bays from the 19th century. Above the entrance on the first floor is a plaster panel depicting a falcon with a raised border. The entrance features panelled double doors. To the right, there is an early 19th-century wing that is also brick rendered, which may have served as an assembly room extension. This wing includes three gabled eaves dormers from the 19th century.
