Description

The Mail House is a shop with domestic accommodation, originally listed as The Mail Hotel. It features a front dating from the mid-18th century, with late 19th-century additions. The building is constructed of colour washed brick and has a slate roof, with two red brick ridge stacks and a wooden cornice. It is set on a plinth and has two storeys plus an attic, comprising six bays.

The façade includes a doorway with a glazing bar and panelled double doors, framed by a Greek Doric porch. On either side of the entrance are single 19th-century canted bays, each containing three glazing bar sashes. To the left, there is a round arched carriageway, and to the right, a single glazing bar sash is present, along with a blocked doorway at the far right. Above the entrance, there are five glazing bar sashes, with the rightmost being lower and narrower, and the leftmost also narrower. In the attic, there are two box dormers; the left has a single glazing bar sash, while the right features a single 20th-century glazing bar casement. At the rear, there are 19th-century two-storey extensions.
