Description
Park House is a town house dating to circa 1760, with additions made between 1847 and 1848 and again circa 1890. It was originally built for the Foljambe family. The building is constructed of red and white brick, with colour-washed surfaces, and has slate and concrete tile roofs, as well as five decorative brick stacks. The street front has a blind gable wall on the right. The central three-storey section features three windows, with horizontal bands separating the first and second floors. The ground floor has three boarded windows within moulded stucco surrounds. Above this is a central canted bay window, flanked by single windows, also with stucco surrounds. Above again are three smaller sash windows with glazing bars, also set within moulded stucco surrounds. A late 19th-century wing to the left incorporates a six-panel door with side lights and an upper boarded window, and two plain sashes. The garden front includes a two-storey, three-window late 19th-century wing to the right. To the left is a mid-18th-century L-shaped wing, again with first and second-floor bands. The ground floor loggia, originally with Doric piers and columns, is now filled in. The upper floors each have a single boarded window to each face, all set within moulded stucco surrounds. Inside, there is a single-flight staircase with a return, characterized by two turned balusters per tread. Further interior features include some shuttered sash windows and plasterwork from the mid-19th century.
