Description

Prospect House is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with significant alterations made in the late 18th century, along with minor changes in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features coursed limestone rubble and red brick with dark headers arranged in Flemish bond, along with stucco dressings. It has a very wide and steeply pitched concrete tiled roof, which is finished with stone coped gables that include kneelers and two brick gable stacks.

The house is two storeys high with a garret and has a three-bay front. It displays a stone plinth, a brick band at the first floor, and a dog tooth eaves course. A central 20th-century door is sheltered by a gabled porch and is flanked by plain sash windows that have rusticated stucco surrounds and keystone lintels. On the first floor, there are three additional plain sash windows. The side elevation is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a brick band at the second floor, with brickwork above it. A blocked door in the gable has been converted into a window.

Inside, there is a late 18th-century cupboard. The roof space, originally used as a granary, has a lime ash floor and a late 18th-century pegged deal roof that includes collars, ties, and two purlins, one of which is trapped by the collar. In the garret, there is a fixed oat bin and mill, and the external door in the gable was used for loading grain.
