Description
Cromwell House is a house from the 17th century that has undergone extensive alterations in the late 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings, featuring raised brick gables and two brick gable stacks, topped with a concrete tiled roof. The building has two storeys, a garret, and cellars, with cill bands on the first and second floors, a moulded brick eaves course, and flush brick quoins.
The front of the house has four bays, with a slightly off-centre 19th-century half-glazed door that has a plain fanlight and a double stepped semi-circular headed brick surround. To the left of the door are two plain sash windows, and to the right is one similar window. On the first floor, there are four additional similar windows. All windows feature flat rubbed brick arches with raised keyblocks and brick reveals. Notably, the window above the door has reveals that continue irregularly below the cill level, indicating an earlier phase of the building. The house is listed for its group value only.
