Description
The Elms is an early 19th-century detached house located on Gainsborough Road. It is built of grey brick and has two storeys, featuring projecting eaves and a hipped slate roof. The house is designed in an H-plan and includes outbuildings as well as a modern extension to the north.
The west facade has three bays with sash windows that include glazing bars and brick voussoirs, along with a modern one-bay addition. The south facade also has three bays, with the centre bay recessed. The ground floor windows consist of 15 lights each and are set in slightly projecting bays, topped with shallow stone pediments, and accessed by two steps leading to the garden. The upper windows have 12 lights and are similarly adorned with brick voussoirs.
The east facade is double fronted, featuring a central door in a slightly projecting bay with a pediment above. There are single windows on either side in similar bays, each with 15 lights and steps, while the upper level has 12 light windows.
