Description
The Hermitage is a mid-18th century brick cottage originally comprising four bays, topped with a pantile roof. A single bay was later added. In the early 19th century, a single bay link was constructed, connecting the cottage to a further single bay addition.
The original cottage features a new front door, two small windows, and a modern garage door where a carriage opening once stood. A small lean-to stable is attached. Four small windows are visible in the upper story. Inside, oak beams and iron ties are visible.
The single bay link is of the same height as the original cottage and includes a ground floor angle bay window and a small window above. The early 19th century addition is taller, with a 12-light sash window and a door consisting of six fielded panels and a rectangular fanlight. The entrance is sheltered by a porch with two freestanding Doric wooden columns and two pilasters, supporting a projecting entablature. This addition is also covered by a pantile roof.
