Description
The Magistrates' Court and Police Station, built in 1849, is a single-storey brick building with stone dressings and a hipped slate roof, designed in an H-plan layout. The south range features a first-floor addition. The east facade has a double front with three bays, a recessed center, and a round-headed doorway flanked by stone pilasters and an arch with a heavy keystone and fanlight. There is a 19th-century iron globe light fitting suspended above the entrance. The sash windows have plain stone surrounds, and there is an identical doorway on the side of the north projecting bay. The outer bays contain sash windows with brick voussoirs. The north facade consists of four bays, featuring an off-centre stone-arched door and three sash windows. The south facade includes another arched doorway with single plain windows on either side, along with modern windows in the extension above. There are minor additions to the west.
