Description

The Old Rectory is a house that was originally built as a rectory in the 18th century and later restored and enlarged in 1853 by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The building features coursed limestone rubble and has a roof that combines plain tiles with decorative tiles, complete with decorative ridge tiles and coped gables. It has a single gable stack and a single ridge stack.

The structure is two stories high with a three-bay front. The outer bays contain doorways, with the right doorway featuring a Caernarvon head and two small lights above, also with Caernarvon heads, leading to partially glazed double doors. The left doorway has a similar Caernarvon head with four small lights above and also leads to partially glazed double doors. The central bay has a two-light sashed window with two small lights above, both with Caernarvon heads. Above this, there are two sashed windows to the right, each consisting of two cusped pointed lights with steep gables above. To the left, there is a larger sashed window with three cusped pointed lights, a trefoiled opening, and a broad gable above.

At the rear, there is an 18th-century range to the right, which is two stories high with two bays, featuring two plain sashes and two plain sashes above. Inside, the rectory contains a fine 18th-century panelled room with fluted Roman Doric pilasters alternating with fielded panelling.
