Description
No. 19 High Street is a house dating from the late 17th century, with some minor alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of squared limestone rubble and features a pantile roof, which has two brick gable stacks and a single ridge stack. The house has a three-unit plan and is a single storey with attics, presenting a four-bay front with a brick eaves course. The entrance is off-centre, featuring a 20th-century door with a plain overlight. To the left of the door is a plain sliding sash window, while to the right are two glazing bar sliding sash windows. All openings are topped with timber lintels. A 20th-century gabled dormer with three lights is set into the roof at eaves level.
Inside, the house has chamfered beams with simple stops in all rooms, and a central inglenook fireplace with a deeply chamfered beam and an elaborately stepped stop. All doors are original, consisting of six panels with left-hand hinges and door furniture, set in good moulded architraves. In the parlour, there are late 17th-century cupboards on either side of the fireplace, featuring reeded pilasters, six-panelled doors, and a keyblock with a carved heart. The main staircase has turned balusters on the risers and splat balusters on the landing, while a back staircase rises from the kitchen.
