Description

Coxwold Hall is a small country house built between 1860 and 1861 by James K Colling. It is constructed of red brick with burnt brick and ashlar dressings, topped with slate roofs featuring ornate barge boards, decorative ridge tiles, and double gable stacks, along with four tripartite ridge stacks of a tall 'Tudor' type. The house has two storeys and consists of seven irregular bays, with a long, lower service wing extending to the right at the rear.

The building features a brick plinth and dogtooth eaves. To the left, there is a slightly projecting bay with a splayed bay window that has Caernarvon-headed lights and a transom. Above this bay window, there is a two-light window, with each light also having a Caernarvon head. To the right, there are three bays with three windows, each containing two lights with Caernarvon heads and transoms. The roof includes two dormers, each with gabled heads and two-light windows. Between the dormers, there is an ornate plaque featuring a deer and foliage, dated 1860.

To the right, there is a single-storey bell tower with a conical roof and lantern, along with a large pointed window with tracery and French windows. Further right, a gabled bay features a large projecting stack with ornate burnt brick decoration. To the left of this stack, there is a narrow rectangular sash window, and above it, flanking stacks on both sides have single two-light mullion and transom windows. The low service wing at the rear has a pyramidal bell turret and features two double stacks and a single tripartite stack.
