Description

The war memorial located in St. Martin's Churchyard is a notable structure dating from the 14th century and around 1919. It is constructed from ashlar and features two octagonal steps leading up to a square base from the 14th century. This base rises with stop-chamfers to an octagonal section, which supports a tapering octagonal shaft from the 20th century. On the west side of the shaft, there is a carving of a Bishop set within an elaborate cusped canopy, which is supported by a stag head, with soldiers depicted on the side panels. The top of the memorial features a Crucifixus with an ogee crocketed gablette.
