Description

House. The Old Manor House dates to the 17th century, with significant additions in the early 19th century and later alterations in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with limestone dressings, and has pantile roofs. The western gable has a stone coping, while the eastern gable is brick and incorporates a brick gable stack. The house is composed of a 17th-century rectangular block, combined with a lower block added in the early 19th century to the east. A late 19th-century porch was built onto the north front, and a 20th-century kitchen was added to the rear.

The 17th-century block is two storeys and has a garret. The north front has two bays, with quoins. A doorway positioned to the east has a four-centred stone arch under a rectangular head, and a plank door with an ornate glazed opening towards the top. To the west of the door is a four-light stone mullion window with a moulded cornice. Above the door is a three-light mullion window, and to the west a four-light mullion window, both with moulded cornices. All the windows on the north front were restored in the 19th century. The west return has a blocked doorway to the south with an early 20th-century mullion window with a cornice inserted. A small rectangular garret light with a wooden lintel is also present. The south front features a four-light stone mullion window with a moulded cornice that was restored in the 19th century. To the east is a 20th-century partially glazed door. Above, a blocked opening is situated to the west, and two 19th-century three-light mullion windows are set side by side under a 17th-century moulded cornice to the east.

The early 19th-century block to the east has a later 19th-century porch constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with quoins. The north front of the porch has a single three-light stone mullion window, with two similar windows above. The west side of the porch contains a doorway with a four-centred head and a plank door, while the north side has a two-light mullion window. The south front of the porch features a two-light mullion window and a four-light mullion window to the east, with a 20th-century three-light wooden casement above. A small 19th-century lean-to has been added to the east, with a two-light mullion window and a 20th-century kitchen.

The interior of the older western room showcases chamfered ceiling beams and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
