Description

Cawthorpe Hall is a small, early 18th-century manor house constructed in ashlar. It has an old slate roof, two storeys and attics, and moulded stone stacks. The front elevation is plain and rectangular, with Doric pilasters at each end. The central section projects forward, with a wooden eaves cornice that also breaks forward at the centre and ends. Rusticated quoins are present. The windows are 19th-century bay windows, two to each storey, and are hung sashes with flat arches. A later oriel window is located to the side. A panelled front door features a glazed fanlight and a semicircular wooden hood supported by console brackets, with panelled ingoes. The house stands on plinths, leading up to a raised stone-paved terrace with four urns. Inside, a wooden staircase has carved brackets, and the arcaded hallway displays attractive lion mask and rosette ornamentation. The drawing room has an ornamental ceiling cornice and panelled doors.
