Description
Cawthorpe House is a late 18th century building, possibly hiding 17th century origins, located in a small hamlet with a single unnamed road. The house stands three storeys tall and is constructed of coursed rubble with rusticated quoins. It features an old stone slate roof with three gables and moulded stone chimney stacks. The windows have irregular placement, flat arches, and glazing bars. The front door is adorned with an ornamental glazed fanlight.
On the rear elevation, the house is divided into three sections, with the central section made of brick. This section has one window on each of the three storeys, featuring stone flat arches with keystones, flush frames, and double hung sashes with glazing bars. The central brick section is flanked by two stone gabled sections.
Inside, there is an early 19th century staircase with iron balusters and carved brackets. The drawing room doorway has a carved six-fielded door beneath a broken pediment, with a dentil cornice and ornamental railing. The outbuildings have been altered too much to be of interest.
