Description

Wake House is an early 19th-century building located on North Street. It stands three storeys tall and is rendered with a modern tiled roof. The building features a heavy carved wooden cornice with brackets along the eaves and a plinth. The original doorway has been replaced by a modern three-light canted brick bay window. There are three double-hung sash windows with flat arches, flush frames, marginal glazing, and stone cills. To the left, there is a later two-storey section with one flat-arched window on each storey. Although the interior has been altered, a plain staircase remains. A plaque on the building notes that it is the birthplace of Frederick C. Worth, a Parisian milliner, on 13th October 1825.
