Description
Number 12 on St Mary's Hill is a building dating from 1671. It is two storeys tall and constructed from coursed rubble, topped with a steep roof made of stone slates. The façade features two windows with wooden lintels, which are double-hung sashes with glazing bars. There is an early 19th-century shop window and door, although the glazing has been modernized.
Beneath the building is a vaulted crypt from around 1220, which has steps blocked in the east wall that once led to the road, as well as a blocked passage entrance in the south wall. The building has one stone stack and double doors to a carriage entry on the left, which is adorned with a relieving arch. The stall riser is made of ashlar.
This building is part of a group that includes numbers 8, 9, and 11 to 16 on the same street.
