Description
The pigeoncote at Little Ponton Hall, now used as a dovecote, dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed of squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and features a swept and facetted conical slate roof with lead dressings. At the top, there is a lead roof turret with open sides and a hipped lead top. The structure has an octagonal plan and a low doorway with a timber lintel providing access to the ground floor. High up, there is a boarded opening. Inside, the walls are lined with stone nesting boxes, and there is a central wooden post with a turning table and ladder. The roof is made of staggered butt purlin pegged oak.
