Description
Great Ponton House is a former rectory, now a small country house, built in 1826. It is constructed of ashlar stone, featuring rusticated quoins and a hipped slate roof with lead dressings. The building has a T-plan layout and stands two stories high with a three-bay front, where the central bay is advanced and topped with a pediment.
On the ground floor, there are three glazing bar sash windows, while the first floor has three smaller sash windows of a similar style. All windows are adorned with raised triangular-headed flat ashlar lintels. The gable includes a recessed oval panel.
On the left side of the front, there is an additional sash window on each floor and a tall semi-circular headed window that illuminates the stairwell. The right side features a pair of double half-glazed doors, which are sheltered by a large ashlar hood supported by scrolled stone brackets.
At the rear, the service range is made of squared coursed rubble and has two-light glazing bar casements with Tudor arched heads, all under plain ashlar lintels. The house retains its shutters throughout.
