Description

The farm buildings at Grange Farm, built in 1866 for Christopher Turnor, consist of two crew yards, beast houses, stables, and a barn. Constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble and red brick, the buildings feature ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with stone-coped slate roofs. The layout forms an E-plan farmyard, with a two-storey barn at the spine and single-storey beast houses on either side, which have open sides supported by brick piers.

The front of the barn has paired gables at the center, featuring three semi-circular headed louvred lights, each separated by a planked door. To the left, there is a planked door, similar double doors, an opening to the stable yard, and a louvred light beyond. To the right, there is a planked door, double doors, an opening, and further tall double doors.

In the center of the yard stands a two-storey square pigeoncote, which has a circular flight hole on one side and a hipped slate roof topped with a wooden turret and a shaped lead roof with a weathervane. At the rear is the barn and waggon hovel, which is two-storey with a nine-bay front. This features central double planked doors with a segmental arch, above which is a panel inscribed "CT 1866". To the left are a pair of open arches with iron stanchions and a planked door beyond, while to the right there is another planked door and four arches, all with iron stanchions. The first floor has six square openings with louvres and overlights, along with a single doorway. To the right of the central doorway is a belt drive flywheel. Flanking the main block are single-storey ranges of waggon hovels and stores.
