Description
The stables at Church Farm are a stable range built in the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the mid-19th century. They are constructed from squared limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, and topped with pantile roofs. The building is arranged in an L-plan and has two storeys with a ten-bay front. The left-hand three bays project forward and have separate gables, containing a central planked door flanked by semi-circular headed openings that hold cast iron ventilators. Above this is a four-light chamfered mullioned window with a cornice. A sundial dated 1776, marked "WR," is reset on the left-hand kneeler stone. The right-hand wing features three planked doors and three lights with lower cast iron ventilator panels, all with segmental stone heads. On the first floor, there is a single fixed glazing bar light set in a chamfered stone surround. Quoins between the fifth and sixth bays indicate the extent of the original structure. The left side has single-storey pent loose boxes in front, with a planked door to the right and a two-light sliding glazing bar sash to the left. This building is included for its group value only.
