Description
Nos 25 to 27 on High Street is a building dating from 1671, featuring three small shops. It is constructed in the mid-18th century style, standing three storeys high with attics, and is made of ashlar stone. The roof is covered with stone slates and has three hipped dormers with casement windows. The building has rusticated quoins and a band that runs between the storeys, continuing as cills on the upper floors. There are six windows arranged in pairs, each with moulded shouldered surrounds and double-hung sashes that do not have glazing bars. A well-crafted moulded stone cornice and blocking course adorn the top. The ground floor presents a mix of doors and windows, including two central doors—one of which is modern—framed by Greek Doric cases. One ground floor window retains glazing bars, while No 25 features a modern shop front. To the right, there are two doors and a flat-arched passage entry. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 14 to 31 and the Public Library.
