Description
No. 14 is a farmhouse located on Church Street in South Witham, dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century and the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. It has a pantile roof with raised stone coped gables and two moulded gable stacks.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics and a cellar, presenting a three-bay front. It has a plinth with a four-light 17th-century chamfered mullioned cellar light. The central doorway is blocked and flanked by single 20th-century glazing bar sash windows, with three similar windows on the first floor. All openings are topped with ashlar lintels that have raised keystones. To the right of the ground floor, there is a further blocked narrow window, while to the left, there is a lower two-storey, two-bay service wing that has been raised and altered in the 20th century.
The two-bay garden front features a six-panelled door with an overlight, and the fenestration on both floors has been altered with 20th-century windows in ashlar surrounds that have flat lintels and keyblocks. There are also two gabled dormers in the roof. This building is included for its group value only.
