Description
Home Farmhouse, sawmill, and stores is a farm complex dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of squared limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, featuring stone coped slate roofs adorned with decorative finials and single gable and ridge moulded ashlar stacks. The layout is T-shaped, with the farmhouse located at the right end of the long range and the sawmill in the shorter range at right angles.
The building is two stories high and has a 13-bay front. The eighth bay from the right is slightly advanced and has a separate gable, featuring a pair of tall double doors beneath a semi-circular head. To the right of this bay, there is a slatted gate, a planked door, a window opening, a pair of two-light casements, a plank and muntin door, and another two-light casement. To the left, there is another slatted gate, a planked door, a louvred light, two planked doors, and a fixed light. On the first floor, the advanced bay has a pair of double doors under a segmental arch, with three glazing bar sliding sashes and a two-light casement to the right, and two planked double doors and a sliding glazing bar sash to the left. The gable of the advanced bay features a blocked circular opening. All windows have segmental ashlar heads, while the doors are similar but more rounded.
The sawmill complex, aligned parallel to the farmhouse, was supplied with water from the adjacent mill race. The gable end of the sawmill has five deeply segmental-headed openings at ground level, three of which contain three-light sliding sashes with small fanlights above. The outer pair of openings are blocked. The sides of the sawmill also feature additional segmental-headed doors and openings. The interior retains a water wheel.
