Description
The ornamental garden steps, located 50 metres south-west of Harlaxton Manor, date from around 1838 to 1844 and are likely designed by William Burn for Gregory Gregory. Constructed from ashlar, the steps feature a straight flight with turned balusters, moulded coping, and square pedestals adorned with strapwork. There are two intermediate landings. The lower flight is flanked by four stone seats on corbels on each side. At the base, there is a wider landing bordered by solid balustrades and strapwork pilasters, two of which are topped with small statues of heraldic beasts. The lowest flight, situated below the landing, is divided by square pedestals topped with urns that have volute bases. Short balustrades with strapwork pedestals are present on either side. These steps are part of the Harlaxton Manor Gardens, which are listed on the Gardens Register at grade II*.
