Description

The school building dates to 1861, with later additions in 1875. It is constructed of red brick with decorative burnt brick headers, ashlar dressings, and a slate roof. The roof has stone coped gables with finials, and prominent eaves featuring alternating red brick and ashlar in a dentilated pattern. The single-story, five-bay front has an ashlar-dressed brick plinth. A central, diamond-shaped porch is a prominent feature, with a large round ashlar columnsupporting pointed ashlar arches above the doorway, which is on the east side of the re-entrant angle and has a plank door. The porch is topped by a rectangular bell turret with patterned brickwork, single trefoil-headed lights on each side, and a steep pointed roof. There are two windows on each side of the porch, with elaborate stacks between, each featuring moulded ashlar panels; the north-west stack displays a coat of arms inscribed 'Cervus non Servus A.D.1861'. All four windows have triple trefoil-shaped lights.
