Description

This is an 18th century building of two storeys and attics, located on St Mary’s Place. Constructed of ashlar, it has a stone slate roof and two stone stacks at the gable ends. It is slightly taller than the adjacent building at No. 2. The front has two cambered dormers and two windows set between three pilasters, which are in a Roman Doric style with capitals extending to the top floor, and feature moulded cornices above both ranges of windows. A band runs along the ground floor cill level. The windows are framed by shouldered moulded architraves with triple keystones, and are double-hung sashes with glazing bars. A panelled room from the mid-18th century is located on the ground floor, although the remainder of the interior is of little architectural merit. The doorway is topped by a semi-circular fanlight, and the left-hand side is shared with No. 3. The building forms a group with Nos. 1 to 4 and the Church of St. Mary.
