Description
No. 30 St Mary's Street is a corner building dating from 1671. It is two stories tall, constructed in ashlar stone with an oversailing upper storey finished in stucco, which may have originally been half-timbered. The upper floor features a double-hung sash window with glazing bars in a wide opening, suggesting a 17th-century origin for the house. The modern ground floor is also in ashlar and includes a canted bay window on the left, set on a modern stone base, and a canted oriel window on the right. The entrance features a late 18th-century wooden door with six panels and a rectangular fanlight above. The building has a wooden eaves cornice and a stone slate roof from the late 17th century, which retains the peak of an earlier gable dated 1605 in plaster. The first floor has two windows with glazing bars, while the modern ground floor includes a shop window and door, a sash window to the right, and a basement window. There is a small extension at a slightly lower level due to the slope of the hill. Nos. 27 to 40 St Mary's Street form a group.
