Description

Harwoods, Builders is a former public house that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of colourwashed coursed limestone rubble and features a steeply pitched pantile roof. The roof has one raised stone coped gable, with a single gable and ridge stacks that retain ashlar bases but have brick shafts.

The structure has a lobby entry plan and is a single storey with attics, displaying a five-bay front. The entrance is an off-centre panelled door, with a similar doorway to the right. To the left, there is a sliding glazing bar sash, a half-glazed door, and a plain sash window. Above the main facade are two gabled dormers with two-light glazing bar casements, along with another similar dormer at the eaves level, all featuring rendered cheeks. The street gable elevation has single sliding glazing bar sashes on each floor, and all openings are topped with timber lintels.

At the rear, there is a 17th-century service block that was originally a catslide but was raised and given a separately gabled roof in the early 19th century. This block has two bays and two storeys, with a pantile roof and a single ashlar wall stack that has a yellow brick top. The side wall includes a plain two-light casement on the ground floor, with a 17th-century pierced larder vent stone to the left. On the first floor, there is another two-light plain casement, with a similar window with glazing bars to the right. The interior retains simply chamfered girders.
