Description
Nos 47 to 50 on St Martin's are early 18th century buildings constructed from ashlar with a stone slate roof. The façade features three hipped dormers and a heavy modillion stone eaves cornice, along with a stone plinth. There are three windows with shouldered surrounds, rusticated arches, and keystones. The ground floor windows have a slightly different pattern but all are hung sashes with glazing bars set in plain reveals, with stone bands continuing as cills. The ground floor also includes two doorways, each with plain stone surrounds, impost bands, and rounded heads. The northern doorway leads to a passage entry for Nos 47, 48, and 49. The last two are 19th century cottages added at the back, and No 49 is likely now combined with No 48. This group of buildings is part of a larger collection that includes Nos 39 to 43, the garden wall to No 43, No 44, the wall to No 44, and Nos 49 to 70, along with the garden wall to Nos 68 and 69 and the Burghley Almshouses.
