Description
Stamford High School for Girls is a building dating from 1876, designed in a Gothic style by architect Edward Browning. It is constructed from coursed rubble with stone dressings and features two storeys topped by a stone slate roof behind a parapet. The façade includes two ranges of six windows with cusped heads set in square-headed architraves, flanking a projecting central section. This central section has two similar windows arranged vertically in one architrave, along with an oriel window featuring three panels at the base, above which are coats of arms. Below the oriel are modern double doors sheltered by a dripmould, accessible via four steps. The central section is rusticated and includes a datestone, as well as a crenellated cornice with animal mask spouts. On the ground floor, there are two windows with eight lights to the right and one to the left, along with a doorway with a dripmould to the left. Nos 18 to 38 (consecutive) and the Church of St Martin form a group with this building.
