Description
No. 45 St Martin's is a building dating from 1671, located on the west side of St Martin's. It is an early to mid-18th century structure that stands two storeys tall, with a cement-rendered exterior and attics. The roof is made of stone slate and features four hipped dormers. The building has rusticated quoins and a stone band between the storeys.
The windows are arranged in a 1:4 pattern, with plain stone surrounds and small keystones. The upper storey has double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The entrance features a six-panel door set in a moulded wood doorcase, which is adorned with pilasters and an open pediment, all painted. There is a small plinth and two moulded stone chimney stacks. An inset foot scraper is also present. The roofing to the left extends irregularly to the rear.
No. 45 is part of a group that includes Nos 39 to 43, a garden wall to No. 43, No. 44, a wall to No. 44, and Nos 45 to 70, along with a garden wall to Nos 68 and 69, which together with the Burghley Almshouses form a cohesive architectural ensemble.
