Description

The stables at Holywell Hall, dating from around 1732 and now used as offices, feature squared limestone rubble with rusticated ashlar quoins and dressings. The building has a hipped Collyweston roof and consists of parallel ranges, standing as a single storey with attics. The front has seven bays with a plinth and an advanced, pedimented central bay that includes an impost band and moulded cornice.

The central double doors are topped with a plain fanlight and set within a semi-circular headed opening that has a flush rusticated surround and stepped keyblock. Above this, in the pediment, is a Diocletian window. Flanking the central bay are pairs of semi-circular headed windows and a single Diocletian window, all featuring plain ashlar surrounds and raised keystones.

The roof includes two pairs of two-light glazing bar casement dormers with curved lead roofs and cheeks. At the center of the ridge is an octagonal cupola on a square base, supported by Doric columns and semi-circular arches. This cupola has a moulded cornice and a ball finial with a weather vane, along with a clock face on the front.

At the rear, there are glazed double doors with a fanlight, set in a semi-circular headed ashlar surround with key and impost blocks. Above the doorway is a scrolled wrought iron lantern bracket. The interior features a staggered butt purlin softwood roof.
